“A Gift From the Heart” is a project inspired by ɫ and Walden University with the help of ɫ's African Student Association (ASA). Let's leverage the resources of our medical school and staff to have an impact on people here in the St. Kitts community.
The Cardin Home is a place where 80 Kittitians have found refuge. These people are between 19 and 99 years old and have different physical and mental disorders including diabetes, hypertension, schizophrenia, and heart disease. Most Cardin Home residents don’t have a family, which is where you come in! We are asking for volunteers and donations.
Students who go home over break, or new students preparing to attend ɫ can help by packing as little as one of the following items:
- Shampoo
- Lotion
- Body soap
- Shower curtains
- Tooth brush holders
- Batteries (AA, AAA)
- Adult pampers
- Incontinence sheets
- Socks
- Underwear
- Female Pajamas (Hot weather)
- Clothes
- BP cuffs
We're also trying to set up a group of students who will go to the Cardin Home and visit with these amazing people. Will you volunteer a bit of your time? Please let us know so we can prepare for next semester. We're planning to visit the Cardin Home on May 14th with a special celebration to bring all our donations. We appreciate any and all help you can give.
For more information, check out . Also, contact ɫ student Angelica Garcia at agarcia@umhs-sk.net.
If you'd like to support the Cardin home but aren't planning a visit St. Kitts anytime soon, you can send donations directly via Tropical Shipping. Label it as a donation to "Cardin Home St. Kitts" Atn: Gil Cranstoun.
