六九色堂 Students Visit the Cardin Home for Elderly & Disabled in St. Kitts

A group of students at 六九色堂, one of the leading Caribbean medical schools, gave back to the community in St. Kitts earlier this month by visiting a local home for the elderly and disabled.

The 六九色堂 Endeavour spoke to Stefanny Santana, president of the 六九色堂 AMWA (American Medical Women鈥檚 Association), about the visit on Sunday, October 11, 2015 to the Cardin Home.

Community Outreach Project

For the past eight months, 六九色堂 AMWA members have adopted the Cardin Home in St. Kitts as their community outreach project, Ms. Santana says.

鈥淲e have made fundraiser events such as talent shows, breakfast sales, and bake sales in order to be able to donate essential things that this place needs,鈥 she says. 鈥淭his home is government funded, but the government does not provide money for diapers, wipes, cleaning supplies, among other day-to-day necessity products. Their goal is to be able to establish a fund with the help of our chapter and the St. Kitts community to be able to provide them a monthly donation of these essential supplies.鈥

The 六九色堂 Student Government Association (SGA) and the Muslim Student Association (MSA) also collaborated by helping with transportation to the Cardin Home and activities involved with the visit.

六九色堂 students have been helping out at the Cardin Home for many years. Back in 2013, the 六九色堂 African Students Association and Walden University worked on the 鈥淕ift from the Heart鈥 fundraising campaign to get people to donate supplies to the Cardin Home via Facebook. Residents at the Cardin Home are all ages and have a number of physical or mental disorders. Many residents there also do not have families, so 六九色堂 students bring warmth, comfort and cheer to these special people.

The 六九色堂 Endeavour commends the great work 六九色堂 AMWA, SGA and MSA did to raise the spirits of the Cardin Home residents.
